Tao Te Ching: Forty Two

13 Feb

The Tao begot one.
One begot two.
Two begot three.
And three begot the ten thousand things…

One gains by losing
And loses by gaining.

What others teach, I also teach; that is:
“A violent man will die a violent death!”
This will be the essence of my teaching.

* The final post from this Chinese classic will come tomorrow, the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Chinese Classical Music for the Golden Tiger 3

13 Feb

The third and final piece of Chinese music from the Beijing Classical Music Ensemble. I believe it is called 喜洋洋,and the English translation probably is “Boisterous Elation.”

Its a jolly piece I want to bounce along with. Now why don’t I hear this in department stores at this time of the year?

As the reunion dinners wind down in Singapore and the mah jong tables come out, life returns to its normal hectic pace after a brief respite. The silence that descended on the red dot from mid-morning as families prepared for the entry of the Golden Tiger Year was so welcome.

Guangling San transcribed by guzheng master Wang Changyuan for guzheng solo 劉芳古箏獨奏《廣.

Music on traditional Chinese instruments moves me but I don’t hear enough of it and have found it difficult to buy in music stores in Singapore – any suggestions or recommendations?
