Without a Trase

The full moon brought vivid dreams and more last night:

Apart from being with high society Thai people in a modest street cafe, I also found myself walking through a condo complex…

On the ground I saw a projection of a stencil painting by Trase-1. I walked on and then back to look at the projection more closely and saw that it was an animation. Looking up, I tried to see where the image was coming from but could not trace it…

Quick cut to another scene… The stuff that dreams are made of.

Nomad Tribute feat. TR853-1™/ aka Yan

In the department of struggling Singapore artists, TR853-1 (Trase-1/ Yan) is a pioneer street vandal. Above is him and his crew at work in a memorial to faLLen Brother, Md Farhan Bin Kassim @ Nomad Mercer (1 May 1983 – 18 Oct 2009).

We were in touch a few years back when I was doing Holistic Living and he had yet to go to college. Now he is still struggling even though his work can be seen in shopping centres and other places.

Trase started graffiti writing in 1999 and has helped groom Singapore’s young street art scene. He has combined both street and fine arts into his work resulting in a unique style that juxtaposes text and imagery.

Now a full-time street artist, Trase is regarded as one of the leading young artists responsible for pushing boundaries and overseeing the progression of the local graffiti art movement. He was awarded the inaugural Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award in 2005.
